Financial training made easy with on-line system

November, 2001

Scottish Provident, one of the UK's leading life assurance companies, has simplified the way it delivers training to its financial advisors following the implementation of a powerful web based e-learning solution from Nottingham-based BYG Systems.

One of the leading media houses in the UK, BYG Systems has used dynamic HTML, animation and graphics via Macromedia Flash to give extra impact and emphasise key points. The programme not only makes learning more interactive and, therefore, more engaging, but it also highlights difficult areas and makes it easier for trainees to retain what they learn.

In addition, because the training material was designed by BYG Systems around a non-linear structure, users are able to see all the major topics from the main menu screen, making it extremely easy to access specific sections with the click of a mouse. A much clearer page layout than the old training programme also gives greater prominence to key information and navigation functions.

To deliver training in a much more user-friendly way, discrete modules with drop down menus offer a clear overview of the topics to be covered in each module. Combined with a summary section, this format enables the user to remain focussed on one topic at a time, improving concentration and understanding. Another feature of the new training programme designed to make learning easier is the use of case studies to demonstrate real-life scenarios.

According to Dr Yoon Yong, Managing Director at BYG Systems, Scottish Provident are "delighted" with the new web-based training system and with the quality of the material provided.

"Scottish Provident wanted us to produce an effective on-line training solution that was engaging for the user and lets them navigate much more easily through the material and pick up information. This is an excellent example of an on-line learning package delivered via the web. It is the future of e-learning."

Focussing on business loans and profit protection, the training package delivered by BYG Systems includes sections on 'The Market for Business Protection', 'Business Loans', 'Key Person Insurance' and 'Taxation Implications' as well as a self-assessment test.

Frank Henery, Sales Training Manager for Scottish Provident says,

"We are extremely pleased with the design of the course. In initial user tests many people have commented on the attractiveness of the interface, the interactivity and the animation. I firmly believe that one of the key ingredients for the success of WBT is the initial appeal of the design to users. As you know most web users are only too willing to click to another page if they are not satisfied with the relevance of the content AND the way it is presented. This course combines the best of both these aspects."

A specialist in developing interactive media, BYG Systems provides businesses with a whole range of solutions, including e-learning, b2b, business to consumer, web and extranet and e-marketing. BYG's total solution includes consultancy, integration, hosting, maintenance and post project support. The company's client base consists of blue chip organisations in the retail, finance and manufacturing sectors.
