BYG takes away the pain of analgesics for healthcare professionals & consumers

October, 2001

Reckitt Benckiser, one of the world's leading producers of household and health and personal care products, is making it easier for healthcare professionals around the world to find out about the benefits and uses of Disprin via a new website created by Nottingham-based BYG Systems.

One of the leading media houses in the UK, BYG Systems was called in by Reckitt Benckiser Health and Personal Care to produce a web site - www.disprin.com - that was informative, easy to use and aesthetically pleasing. Just a mouse click away, is simple information on pain and analgesia for healthcare workers, students and consumers.

Says Mike Stillings, Head of Global Healthcare Professional Relations at Reckitt Benckiser: "healthcare professionals around the world now have a single source of information relating to Disprin and this web site provides an educational, informative and invaluable tool for nurses, doctors, students of healthcare and consumers."

He adds: "Disprin is a well established global brand and we wanted to emphasise its modernity…what better way than with disprin.com. We chose BYG Systems because the company combined a high level of expertise with extremely competitive rates. We are very pleased with the results."

Dr Yoon Yong, Managing Director at BYG Systems says of the web site: "Reckitt Benckiser is a major company operating on a global scale and we are delighted to have helped them emphasise the modernity of Disprin among healthcare professionals and consumers."

He adds: "The company gave us a challenging brief and we followed that brief to the letter. The result is that healthcare professionals as well as consumers now have access to information which was simply not available before from a single source. This site can help in the future training and development of healthcare professionals and, in turn, will increase the understanding of the benefits of Disprin on a worldwide basis."

One particularly interesting feature highlighted on the web is new news on the treatment of migraine by Disprin Direct, an aspirin based chewable formulation. The Reckitt Benckiser web site shows how Disprin Direct acts against migraines and reminds healthcare professionals that simple remedies may be all that's required to treat this distressing condition, rather than immediately choosing more costly alternatives.

The web site also looks at Disprin's main uses as an analgesic/antipyretic and provides detailed information on dosage, contraindications, precautions and warnings. Other sections on the site deal with clinical support, pharmacokinetics, clinical efficacy, and frequently asked questions. The site also provides information for students of pharmacy and chemistry and there's also a section for consumers to understand the benefits of using Disprin.

On the history of Disprin, the site points out that while the use of aspirin-like substances in medicine can be traced back to 400BC, Disprin itself was introduced in November 1948 by Reckitt & Sons. The product is now available in over 70 countries.

Also, on a global basis, the Disprin range is now much more than soluble aspirin and contains other active ingredients such as paracetamol, which is of course a highly effective analgesic. The site states that Disprin now offers the consumer "distinctive products with modern formats and a range of pain-killing ingredients" and in addition declares that,

"For a number of years Reckitt have been delivering training around the world to healthcare students and professionals. We were determined to reflect this in our web site. The information included reflects the replies we have received from schools of pharmacy and universities on what students would find useful."

Formed in 1999, Reckitt Benckiser is not only a leading figure in OTC medicines but is also the number one household cleaning company in the world with such names as Haze, Harpic, Mr Sheen, Calgon, Finish and Vanish. In the health and personal care field, apart from Disprin Reckitt Benckiser makes such products as Codis, Disprol, Dettol, Bonjela, Lemsip, Gaviscon, Steradent and Immac.
