Wesleyan Assurance launches new extranet solution
December, 2000
Wesleyan Assurance's sales force have been given an entirely new communication channel, thanks to an Extranet site developed by BYG Systems. The site is accessible 24-7 via the Internet, and enables Wesleyan's sales force to receive communications regardless of location or time.
The primary objective of the site is to improve communication between Head Office and field staff who work from home. Their varying locations and unpredictable hours of work previously meant limited communication and isolation from Head Office and peers. The extranet site is template based, to enable Head Office staff to update/edit content, and features an 'Askit Board' where sales staff can post questions, answer queries and generally keep in touch.
The extranet site design is a fresh twist on the 'Very Wesleyan' corporate branding, with animation and humorous graphics. Sections include a a library of documents combined with a powerful search engine, a newsboard and a staff directory with automated email. On-line ordering for marketing literature enables significant cost savings in telephone calls and postage, and provides sales staff with the latest information (including Interest Rates and T & C Manuals) at their fingertips.
An important objective of the site was that it should be motivational to staff. To fulfill this, Wesleyan included regular updates on sales performances, latest sales figures and success stories, including 'sales person of the month'.
Although the Wesleyan Extranet has only recently been launched, feedback from sales staff has been extremely positive. Ian Hamilton, Sales Systems Service Manager with the Wesleyan comments "on area visits, the feedback I received confirmed that the Exchange is seen as a major step forward in improving communications between Head Office and the sales force."
More significantly, the site has recently been 'adopted' as the Wesleyan Head Office Intranet, and is now to be used by all Wesleyan staff as well as the field sales force.
Dr Yong, Managing Director at BYG Systems believes this is typical of industry 'buy-in' to extranet technology:
'Extranets and Intranets reflect the new, flexible workplace that supports mobile working, just in time training and immediate access to mission critical data. BYG anticipates significant future growth in this type of technology, particularly in the finance and retail industries.'
BYG, a UK leader in e-business solutions, developed a very sophisticated bespoke extranet solution for Wesleyan, in which the objectives for design and functionality were fufilled, whilst not compromising on speed or ease of access. The site is protected by password security and encryption to ensure only authorised use, and is built around a template based design to ensure the site is future-proof and scalable.
